    MINI-METRICRandom Acts of Kindness
Let’s make this February one where we give from our heart. We will be working on two projects – “Souper” Bowl of Kindness and Random Acts of Kindness. Please join us and have your students participate. In order to collect canned goods or money for the “Souper” Bowl project you will need to begin this project in January.
The “Souper” Bowl of Caring involves collecting canned goods and/or dollars for anti-hunger work of your choice, on the date of the Super Bowl which is February 2, 2013. Find more information on the Souper Bowl website.
Who couldn’t use a little more kindness in their lives? Help your students learn how easy it is to do random acts of kindness for others. Start by watching the videos from the Random Acts of Kindness website. Here is a document of random acts you can give to your students to get them started. Read this blog post to get some inspiration and find out what one family did on the mom’s birthday to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness.

This science-math connection will work with your students on becoming familiar with estimation and the metric system. Science and much of the world utilizes the metric system and this lesson gives you the opportunity to make it fun. Your students will participate in Measuring Olympic Events scored based on how close they come to their estimations. Find other teachers on this network to form an Edmodo group or a Google Hangout and compete, making it a true global experience! Complete this project by airing an award ceremony with all classes that participate.
